Learning about your eye health can be complicated – and might even seem overwhelming at first. To simplify things for our patients, we’ve created our Eye Health Library, a comprehensive library of vision-related information. We invite you to browse through our library to find information that will help you better understand how your vision works, common eye conditions, surgeries and how your vision changes as you age.

The hot topic in healthcare is sleep and how it effects our overall health. The increase in digital technologies and our reliance on them have had an effect on our eyes. Your eyes control Melatonin production in our body. When blue light is removed from our environment, we don’t produce Melatonin causing us to get tired and sleep. Studies have shown lack of sleep can be detrimental to our concentrate, performance and health. As a health provider, we encourage our patients to take a multifaceted approach to protecting our visual health.

  • Diet and exercise: Having foods that have Lutein and Zeaxanthin increases your macular pigment (the protective layer of your retina). Exercise is important to help control blood pressure and blood sugar levels that can effect your refractive errors ( glasses or contact lens prescription).
  • Reduction of exposure to environmental blue light and UV radiation. This includes wearing sunglasses outside, reducing our screen time especially at night and/or blocking blue light through eyewear or device settings (such as night shift on Apple devices)
