Dry Eye and your vision

Many patients suffer from a condition commonly referred to as dry eye.  Dry Eye can be caused by the body not producing enough tears or the tear quality can be poor.  One symptom of dry eye is unstable or blurred vision.  Try focusing on an object and not blinking.  You will notice that the object will get blurrier the longer you keep your eyes open. This caused by the corneal surface drying out, which changes the first refractive layer of the eye, the tear filament.  Many patients that suffer from unstable vision and can not get glasses that seem to correct their acuity properly suffer from some form of Dry Eye.  Ask your Optometrist how they test for Dry Eye and treatments that may be used to help correct this common condition.
